Skin quality

Dermapen is a microneedling technique that works the skin with very fine microneedles: it creates microchannels that activate the skin's natural renewal process and help active ingredients absorb better. At Nova Center we use it to improve the quality of facial skin —uneven texture, visible pores, mild marks or the first signs of ageing— and it can be performed with or without an active-ingredient cocktail, depending on your goal. It is a different technique from RF microneedling. It tends to suit skin that is looking for gradual, consistent care rather than an immediate change. The number of sessions, the working depth and the protocol are always defined at a prior assessment at our clinic in Les Corts, Barcelona.

How it works

A head with microneedles delivers controlled micro-stimulation to the skin to activate its natural renewal; optionally it is accompanied by an active-ingredient cocktail. The depth is adjusted to the area and your skin.

The procedure

  1. 1

    Assessment

We review your skin's texture and needs to confirm suitability and decide whether to combine it with an active-ingredient cocktail.

  2. 2

    Preparation

The skin is cleansed and, depending on the case, a comfort cream is applied before starting.

  3. 3

    Session

The microneedling is performed area by area at the right depth, in a controlled and comfortable way.

  4. 4

    Aftercare

Hydration and sun-protection guidance is given for the following days and the remaining sessions are planned.

What this page helps you decide

This page helps you understand what the treatment addresses, when it may fit and when another option may suit you better. It is not a diagnosis: suitability is always confirmed in a prior assessment, where your goals, your skin and your history are reviewed.

When it may not be the first option

  • You are looking for an immediate change equivalent to surgery.
  • You expect a fixed or assured result.
  • There is active irritation, infection or lesions in the area right now.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding (depending on the treatment).
  • You have recently had other procedures in the area that should be assessed first.

Questions for your assessment

  • Is this treatment suitable for my goal and my area?
  • Which treatments have I had before and how might they matter?
  • Do I have sensitivities or history I should mention?
  • What downtime would this involve in my case?
  • Over what timeframe could progress be assessed?
  • What maintenance or follow-up may be needed?
  • How is the price planned for my case?
  • Is a direct booking or a prior assessment the right route?

Planning combinations

In some cases several treatments may be planned together or in stages. Whether this is appropriate, and in what order, always depends on the prior assessment. We do not offer fixed packages or predefined protocols on this page.

Frequently asked questions

What is dermapen and what is it for?

It is a microneedling technique that uses microneedles to create microchannels in the skin and activate its natural renewal process. It is aimed at improving texture, visible pores and the overall quality of facial skin. The specific goal is assessed on an individual basis.

How is dermapen different from RF microneedling?

Dermapen works only with the mechanical stimulation of the microneedles, whereas RF microneedling also adds radiofrequency energy. They are different treatments, each with its own protocol; the assessment helps indicate which may fit your skin and goal best.

How many sessions are recommended and how long is each one?

It is usually planned in sessions within a progressive programme. Each session lasts, indicatively, around 60 minutes. The number of sessions and the price of the plan are decided at the prior assessment, based on your skin and the goal you want to work on.

Does dermapen hurt?

The sensation varies with the area and the working depth; many people describe it as a tolerable discomfort. It is adapted during the session and, where appropriate, measures are used to improve comfort. The assessment explains what you can expect for your case.

Can it be done with or without an active cocktail?

Yes. Dermapen can be performed on its own or combined with an active-ingredient cocktail chosen according to the skin's needs. The most suitable option for your case is decided at the assessment, along with the rest of the protocol.

What aftercare is there, and who should be assessed first?

After the session we recommend following the hydration and sun-protection guidance given on an individual basis. Not every skin or every moment is suitable, so a prior assessment is advisable to confirm the treatment is appropriate for you.

Do I need a prior assessment?

We recommend an assessment to confirm the treatment is suitable and define the protocol for your case.

Can I expect a specific result?

Results vary from person to person. We do not promise a specific result.
