The prior assessment in aesthetic medicine

What it is, what is reviewed and how to prepare to make the most of it.

Most aesthetic-medicine treatments start from a prior assessment. Understanding what it involves helps you arrive prepared and make better decisions.

What it is and what it's for

The prior assessment is when your case is studied, the suitability of a treatment is confirmed and a personalised plan is defined.

It is also the space to clear up questions, discuss expectations and understand what results are reasonable.

What is reviewed

The area and goal, skin quality, medical history, medication, allergies and previous treatments are all reviewed.

With that information the indication is confirmed or alternatives are proposed, including not treating if it isn't appropriate.

What to bring and what to ask

Arrive with your goals in order of priority, your treatment history and your current skincare routine.

Ask about the indication in your case, the number of sessions, reasonable results, discomfort and maintenance.

After the assessment: the plan

After the assessment a plan is proposed, which may be a single treatment or a phased approach.

Take your time to decide. A good decision combines information, safety and realistic expectations.

Frequently asked questions

Does an assessment commit me to treatment?

No. It is a space to understand your case and options. Deciding whether to be treated is always yours.

What if the treatment isn't indicated?

You're told why and, if appropriate, alternatives are proposed or no treatment is recommended.
